Some of the interesting things I found include applications for converting between customary and metric units, finding LCM, Greatest Common Divsor or GCF, and factors. However, I really liked that you could perform all of the different transformations on a variety of shapes. I could see using this as an introduction to each of the transformations.
This device is phenomenal! What I wouldn't have given for this last semester when I was tutoring college algebra students! One of the most innovative products I've seen in a long time.
Other than tutoring, I don't see how I can use this much teaching K-6; hope to learn more about it's uses for pre-algebra.
I discovered in the My Documents folder that it contains examples of various functions that the calculator can perform. I briefly looked over some of them, but there are really so many things this calculator can do that it will take a long time to figure them out.
In my classroom, my students would enjoy playing with the calculator and I'm sure they could find some ways to make it useful in their classwork.
I am very excited with the TI Nspire! With instruction I hope to learn alot so I can use this with my students this year. I am the type of person that likes instruction with my technology. Once I get things figured out I know I will fly. I truely look forward to using this technology with my students. It would be great to have a set for my students! Thank you ever so much for everything!!!
I was very surprised to receive our new piece of technology today. Since I'm changing grade levels from 3rd to 6th, I feel a little overwhelmed. I'm still trying to figure out the 6th grade curriculum and the CSO's that go along with them. Once I can figure this out, I'm sure the new technology will be an asset. I did learn that the control key enables you to do the functions in white above the keys. I know I have a great deal of information to learn on Friday. I would like to thank Dr.Wright, Rasheeda and Tosha for all of your help and assistance this week. It has been a very rewarding experience.
I have been trying to complete the Getting Started section. I'm still learning the TI-73. If only I was "Techno Girl."
I was able to work through the menus to find lots of the things that can be done. I just have to learn HOW to do them.
Hey! I was just now able to use factorial. OK, calculator, here I come.
I will concentrate on the functions I would use in class and work until I am fluent with them and then use them via the projector, if possible. Or an Elmo would work, right?
I had to laugh at Donna's comment. That's me, too, but I know after instruction and finagling with it and "reading" the instructions I will get farther. I do remember last year, in the middle school math classes I collaborated in, the instructor showed the class how to plot graphs. He projected what he was doing using a computer on a large screen so the class could see and follow in pushing the right buttons. I never did quite understand but you could make graphs, plot points, etc. and much more. I just know there is so much this can do. Some classes at the high school use this type of calculator. I am thrilled to now have one. Thank you so much! This week has been so helpful to me! I feel very blessed and hope to increase in learning so I can pass it on. I look forward to tomorrow.
I can understand my student attitudes a little more especially the one that are not familiar with the calculator at all. It can be overwhelming with how many button it has, but I had fun just pushing them and seeing what happened. I am very excited about all the options it has and I fell sure that I will be able in incorporate into all my classes. I may have to put in on the large TV in my room and use it as a instructional tool instead of allowing the students to explore since I am not sure of how many I will be able to get.
I realy like the new gadget. Hope every student will have the opportunity to use it. I think it can be used to take notes and add graph to note pad. Of cause, every technology has its drawback. It takes time for people to get use to it
I learned how to use several functions and slightly begin working on the graphing. I hope to use this calculator to be able to do more advanced projects, but all weaker students to use this kind of calculator in order to keep up and gain alot from a project they may normally not have been able to do.
I love the calculator. I'm hoping I can find enough funding to purchase one for each of my special needs students (18 total). If I can get them to use the TI-Nspire, they may lose their fear of math.
the TI Nspire is very intractive. The touch pad is very cool tool. I like that you can do many funtions at once. Also, having poor vision-changing the font was a great feature for me.
I could use the calculator with some of the students that I tutor in the after school program. I feel that with technology the way it is improving today, it is important to give even the younger students an opportunity to begin to use some of these devices. They will be using these in the future so I think that it is important to introduce them to it now- so they will be more familiar with it in the future. Thank you for everything this week. Even though I teach younger students, I can still benefit from the instructional strategies that I have learned this week. It has been very helpful to me.
